Artist

Z
Z grew up in Memphis where a culture of music pulsed around him. He lived in the Idaho mountains before moving to Seattle, Washington, in 1986. He was playing his 12-string guitar live in the desert at Burning Man when he discovered the raw minimalistic elements found on his first CD, Water Sines – Tone Poems in the Key of H2O. Z noticed that a persistent, beatless groove delivered in a single key produced a calming effect on the gathered audience. Z pays homage to Indian music and in particular the tambura, a four-string lute used for its drone sound. He gets inspiration from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. Z is a self-taught musician. He’s been playing music for many lifetimes.

Guitars

The 12-string guitar is a monster of an instrument with a deep and articulate sound. Z plays two custom-built models, a wood-bodied Mirage from MJ Guitars and an aluminum-bodied instrument from Zero Guitars.

Music

Water Sines is a genre-defying production that fuses electronic and acoustic material in an ambient journey beyond the realm of music. Because the work is free of beats and melodies, it resembles the natural vibrations of Om. The compositions don’t distract the reptilian brain with key changes or the human voice, so a borderless culture is created the moment a piece is heard. The moment is the music. Water Sines showcases the powers in music that are almost supernatural.
